Peningkatan Kosa Kata Bahasa Inggris Menggunakan Teknik Gesture pada Siswa Kelas 1 SDN Puloniti

Abstract


This study was conducted to improve students' vocabulary by using gesture techniques in class I of Puloniti Mojokerto State Elementary School. In conducting this study, the researcher used a class action research design. The researcher introduced new vocabulary to students by using the gesture technique. This study consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisted of three meetings. This research was conducted for three weeks. In collecting data, the researcher used tests both pretest and posttest. The results showed that students improved their vocabulary by using gestures. The improvement of students' vocabulary is shown as follows: In the initial test, the average score was 51.8, 5 students passed the minimum standard, while the percentage of students who passed the KKM was 22.7%, and the score increased in the final post-test 1. In the first cycle, the average score was 66.3, and 12 students passed the minimum standard or the percentage of students who passed was 54%. This increased again in the second cycle, with an average score of 86.3 with 20 students passing the standard or a percentage of 90.9%. From the results of all tests, the researcher concluded that the use of gesture techniques to improve students' vocabulary in the first grade of Puloniti State Elementary School, Mojokerto was successful, because the success criterion was 70%. The gesture technique can improve students' mastery of English vocabulary. It can be seen from the data above, before the study as many as 5 students could answer and memorise well or the percentage (22.7%), then in cycle 1 it increased to 12 students (54%), in cycle 2 it increased to 20 students (90.6%). This means that the gesture technique was successfully applied in class I SDN Puloniti Mojokerto and can be used as an alternative solution to similar problems.
