Abstract

Motor skills are important for children. Fine motor skills make children able to manage pieces of objects, make shapes, and draw. The problem encountered by researchers in the field is the lack of learning activities that support fine motor skills in second-grade students of SDN Gunungdatar. The fine motor skills of second-grade students of SDN Gunungdatar have not been well developed. This study aims to improve fine motor skills through folding origami paper in second-grade students of SDN Gunungdatar. This study used a type of Classroom Action Research with the Kemmis & McTagart model. The subjects of the study numbered 23 second-grade students. The object of this study is fine motor skills. Data collection techniques and instruments using test sheets, observation sheets, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is quantitative descriptive to analyze data in the form of numbers. The determined success indicator was ≥75% of the 23 students had fine motor skills. This study was conducted in two cycles. The results stated that the fine motor skills of second-grade students for skilled criteria in the Pre-Cycle stage were 4.3%, in Cycle I as much as 34.8%, and in Cycle II as much as 78.3%. The percentage results in Cycle II prove that this study has achieved success indicators. Based on the results of research conducted as many as 2 cycles and the students studied amounted to 23 people by folding origami paper in the form of a flat shape which became a variety of shapes such as animal shapes and objects that they could use to spark students' enthusiasm in carrying out activities. It can be concluded that fine motor skills in second-grade students of SDN Gunungdatar can be improved by folding origami paper.
