Abstract


This study aims to examine the integration of life skills into swimming training programs. A total of 60 participants who were swimming athletes and non-athletes were involved in this study. All participants were then divided into three groups, namely (i) swimming atheltes who received swimming programs integrated with life skills, (ii) swimming atheltes who were only given regular swimming programs without life skills, and (iii) non-athletes who received swimming programs without integrated life skills. The method used in this study was the matching-only pretest-posttest control group design. Eight life skills which include team work skills, setting goals, social skills, problem solving and decision making, emotional skills, interpersonal communication, leadership, and time management were integrated into a swimming training program. The results showed that there were differences in the development of life skills between swimming athletes who received a swimming program integrated with life skills with a group of swimming athletes without a life skills program and a group of non-athletes. The group of swimming athletes who received swimming programs with life skills integration had higher life skills development compared to the other two groups. This shows that the deliberate provision of life skills programs is proven to be able to improve the development of athletes' life skills.
