Abstract

Youth sports provide an essential platform for promoting physical, psychological, and social development, alongside fostering moral values. This study examines the relationships among moral values (MV), competence values (CV), and status values (SV) in a sample of 139 youth athletes aged 12–13 years using the Youth Sport Values Questionnaire-2 (YSVQ-2). Descriptive analysis revealed that males scored slightly higher in MV and CV, whereas females showed marginally higher SV scores. Pearson correlation analysis identified strong positive relationships among the three dimensions, with the strongest correlation between MV and CV (r = 0.651, p < 0.001), followed by CV and SV (r = 0.597, p < 0.001), and a moderate correlation between MV and SV (r = 0.480, p < 0.001). These findings underscore the interconnectedness of ethical, competence-driven, and social values in youth sports, emphasizing the need for task-oriented climates and value-based education. Future studies should explore these dynamics longitudinally and develop interventions to enhance ethical and competence-driven values among young athletes.
