MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN KOMUNIKASI LISAN MELALUI METODE STORYTELLING

Abstract


Komunikasi pendidikan adalah proses pertukaran informasi antara dua sumber, salah satu sumber adalah pelajar dan sumber lainnya adalah guru. Komunikasi menjadi sebuah komponen yang sangat penting dalam proses belajar dan mengajar (Ekol, 2005, hlm. 51). Keterampilan komunikasi lisan adalah dimensi penting dari komunikasi pendidikan. Keterampilan komunikasi sangat diperlukan untuk mencapai keberhasilan dalam belajar. Peserta didik akan mudah mengkomunikasikan berbagai hal yang menyangkut materi pembelajaran, baik secara lisan maupun tulisan dengan keterampilan komunikasi (Maryanti, S., 2012, hlm. 2). Keterampilan komunikasi menjadi disiplin ilmu yang eksklusif dalam kurikulum pada bidang akademis. Robert T. Craig menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada teori komunikasi khusus dalam bidang pendidikan. Tetapi munculnya globalisasi telah membuka jalan di bidang pendidikan dengan fokus khusus pada kemampuan komunikasi (Mishra & Azeez, 2016, hlm. 55). Komunikasi pendidikan menjadi berkaitan dengan aspek komunikatif belajar mengajar dalam berbagai situasi dan konteks (Morreale et al., 2014, hlm. 344).

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) (1999) membuat sebuah pernyataan bahwa keterampilan berkomunikasi termasuk mengekspresikan diri dalam berbagai cara, secara lisan maupun dalam bentuk tertulis, serta memahami secara lisan maupun tertulis isi dari penyataan orang lain. Keterampilan berkomunikasi menjadi sangat penting karena setiap orang mempunyai kebutuhan untuk mengemukakan ide, membantu dalam proses penyusunan pikiran, juga merupakan dasar untuk memecahkan masalah. Uraian tersebut memberikan gambaran bahwa komunikasi merupakan salah satu jantung dalam pembelajaran, sehingga perlu diimplementasikan dalam aktivitas belajar.

Semua yang terjadi di kelas tercipta dan berkelanjutan melalui proses komunikasi. Rencana pelajaran, metode pengajaran, strategi disiplin, dan kritik terhadap karya peserta didik terjadi melalui pertukaran komunikasi antara guru dan peserta didik (Powell, 2010, hlm. 7). Metode belajar adalah panduan untuk merancang kegiatan pendidikan, lingkungan dan pengalaman serta menentukan pola mengajar (Petrina, 2011, hlm. 127). Cara individu mengkomunikasi pengalamannya, memahami pengalaman orang lain, membebaskan imajinasinya, dan memahami dunia dan posisi diri sendiri didalamnya dapat disebut storytelling (Maynard, 2005, hlm. 1).
