Abstract

The presence of child is one of the things that a husband and wife look forward in the family. However, it often happens that the child shows problems in development from an early age. One example of a problem that can occur is the appearance of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). When a child is stated to have symptoms of ADHD, an endless list of possible parents' reactions can occur: anger, shame, concern, anxiety, rejection, confusion, self-pity, shock, fear, sadness, stress and mourning. In this study there were three parents who experienced self-acceptance when their children were diagnosed with ADHD. Self-acceptance is very important to have by parents, because this can be one of the factors to provide proper and best care for children. The process of self-acceptance faced by each person is not always the same. In this process of self-acceptance, parents go through several phases such as sadness and fear, stress, inferiority and finally being able to accept the child's differences. Parents feel sad and scared when they first find out that their child has ADHD
