ABSTRACT
This article intends to explain Community Service activities in Cibeureum Wetan Village, Sumedang which aims to improve people's literacy skills. The approach in this activity is the Participatory Rural Appraisal approach where this approach adopts the critical theory proposed by Paolo Freire. The approach emphasizes a bottom-up approach, where participants are seen as individuals who have a voice and agency so that they are able to make decisions that benefit themselves and their environment. The results of the activity show that through a participatory approach, the participation and sense of belonging of the community towards literacy development programs has increased. The results of this activity also emphasize that the approach to village development programs should start from an awareness that village communities have full rights to determine the form of full participation for their village.
