The Relationship of Job Demands to Burnout with Social Support as a Mediating Variable

Abstract


This study examines the relationship between work demands and Burnout with social support as a mediating variable among generation Z workers in Sukabumi City. The phenomenon of Burnout is increasingly common among young workers due to high work pressure, long working hours, and lack of social support. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of work demands on Burnout and how social support can mediate the relationship. This study used a quantitative method with a causal descriptive approach, involving 200 respondents selected from a population of 36,732 generation Z workers in Sukabumi City. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS 22 software. The results showed that job demands had a significant effect on Burnout and social support. Social support also had a significant influence on Burnout, but was not effective as a mediating variable. The direct effect of job demands on Burnout is greater than the indirect effect through social support. Therefore, to reduce Burnout, companies need to increase social support in the work environment and manage work demands well. In conclusion, although social support can help, effective management of work demands is more crucial in reducing Burnout among Generation Z workers in Sukabumi City.
