Abstract

Psychological aspects play as important a role as technical, physical and tactical aspects in relation to sports performance. However, in fact, its application in the training process is still very limited, especially for novice student-athletes. For this reason, this study aims to test the effectiveness of mental imagery training on mastering defensive lob skills in badminton. The research was conducted on 14 male badminton student-athletes who took part in badminton extracurricular activities, using a quasi-experimental method and a single group pre-test and post-test design. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the mental imagery training method had a significant influence on the mastery of the basic defensive lob skills of playing badminton. In accordance with the results of this analysis, the mental imagery training method can be used as an alternative to improve mastery of defensive lob skills in badminton.
